What’s Cooking; Lestari - Grill & Pasta
Quite some time I was planning to pay a visit to the Umalas Stables, to see the horses and check what they have to offer for riding lessons. So the invitation of the Lestari Restaurant brought me the chance to have some nice dinner and see the beautiful animals over there. As you might understand, the brand new Lestari Restaurant (opened in June 2007) is located in the Umalas Stables.
It was already dark, but the nice security guy of the place showed us around the stables with a flashlight (I guess the horses can be a little cranky when you disturb them while resting) and he guided us to the restaurant. Basically we just had to follow the path and head for the many tiny lights in the back of the place.
Stepping inside the restaurant gives you a warm feeling. The setting is quite romantic and all the candle lights and the reflection of them in the big swimming pool, gives the place that little extra. The table was tidily set and directly we got a free welcome drink (again a margarita… definitely a good begin for dinner!).
The menu was just right; enough variation to serve different tastes, but not overwhelming to make the choice difficult. The specialty as you probably can guess from the name is meat and pasta. Well, we are all meat lovers so this time, no pasta for us. But if you’re planning to have a meal at Lestari, the manager recommends you the popular Ravioli Carouselle; a colorful collection of different Ravioli. Besides meat and pasta, the menu offers you a selection of salads, soups, seafood and Indonesian dishes.
The well dressed and polite staff came to take our order; we decided to go with some starters first. We ordered Tuna Tartare, Garlic Bread and Mozarella Brushetta. For the main course we agreed on the recommended “Café de Paris” tenderloin, Lamb shank Lestari and the Tuna Dill Medaillons.

After a short moment we got another little surprise; a chicken fricadelle as a welcome dish. Tasty.
Not long after that , the starters arrived. The dishes were presented very well; there’s definitely some creative chef’s. On the brusettas layed some thick and rich mozarella cheese with some tomato and olives and the Tuna Tartar was just the right amount and the right quality. That sure was a good start.
The main courses were also satisfying. The tenderloin was covered in a herb butter sauce and the French fries were crispy. We recommend to order a salad with it, because the “Cafe the Paris” comes without greens. The Lamb had the right texture; soft and the meat fell directly from the bone. The Tuna Medallion was seared, so it still had bright pink on the inside. The Tuna came with rice and vegetables and two sauces; soy with wasabi and a dill sauce. My favorite was the dill sauce, because it was a total new taste for me. Tuna and dill is a good combination.
While enjoying the main course, we enjoyed the conversations and the atmosphere of the restaurant. The background music is clear enough to listen too, but not to loud to disturb your conversation. Other guests seemed to enjoy their night to the fullest, so the good atmosphere was surrounding the place.
After the main course, we ordered another drink but we skipped the dessert (the dessert choices sounded delicious but we decided that the amount of food was just right). There will definitely be a next time to try them!
Round up
Lestari Grill & Pasta is located in the back of the Umalas Stables. Their specialty is grilled meat (they also offer a “each as much as you like BBQ”) and fresh made pasta. The setting is quite romantic and the prices are reasonable for the amount and quality. Lestari is open from 7.00 for breakfast and the last order is at 11.15 in the night.
