Introduction and Geography
Bali is one of over 13,000 islands in the Indonesian archipelago at 8°25′23″S, 115°14′55″E, with the island Java on the west and Lombok on the east. Bali is one of the 33 provinces that Indonesia had and the capital is Denpasar, which is located in the south of the island. The majority of the population is Balinese Hindu, unlike the majority of whole Indonesia, which is about 93% Muslim. The population of Bali is 3,160,000 people.
The island of Bali is approximately 153 km wide, from east to west and from north to south it’s around 112 km (95 by 69 miles, respectively). The total surface is 5,632 km. Mount Agung is the highest point with 3142 m (10,308 feet).

Language
The language spoken on Bali is Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian) and Bahasa Bali (Balinese). In and around the tourists area, English is spoken well.

Climate
The weather in Bali is tropical. It’s always warm and humid. The year is divided in two seasons; the dry (April-October) and rainy season (November-March). In the rainy season there can be heavy rainfall in a short period of time. This can result in flooded streets.

Tourism
The tourist season is mainly in July-August and around Christmas time and New Years. During Australian school holidays (early April, late June and late September) the island can also be packed. Bali is the largest tourist destination in the country. The island is famous for it’s highly developed art including; painting, sculpturing, woodcarving, dance, metalworking and music performance.

Currency
The currency is Rupiah (RP / IDR)

Time
Bali is in the UTC+8 time zone (known in Indonesia as WITA, Waktu Indonesia Tengah), same as Singapore, one hour ahead of Jakarta.

Electricity
Electricity is supplied at 220V 50Hz. Outlets are the European standard CEE-7/7 “Schukostecker” or “Schuko” or the compatible, but non-grounded, CEE-7/16 “Europlug” types. Generally speaking, U.S. and Canadian travelers should pack an adapter for these outlets if they plan to use North American electrical equipment in Bali.
