TJ's Bar and Restaurant
TJ's, like Made's Warung or Gado Gado, is one of a selected group of eateries that is claimed to be a monument to Bali's culinary history milestones on the road to the development of fine food on the island. Since 1984 TJ's still relies on attracting and satisfying customers from the passing parade on Poppies Lane what better and more strategic thoroughfare is there?
TJ's serves classic Californian Mexican fare! And to kick-start your evening all the usual Mexican dips are available: Nachos, Guacamole, Taquitos, Chimichangas, Quesadillas are just a few from the list and with an authentic south of the border taste.
Next get into those Mexicali standards if you like: Tacos, Enchiladas and Tostadas with beef, chicken or fish fillings, all with Mexican fried rice and refried beans.
Or move into an area of more selected tastes (some might say!): The Enchiladas de Jaibas for example, which is soft flour tortillas with a filling of crabmeat, sour cream and green chilies is a mouthwatering and popular dish; as is the Camarones Escorpionados or scorpion cut prawns done in a Creole sauce and served on a bed of savory rice.
It's then that you arrive at TJ's specialties menu items that are "musts" in any Mexican restaurant worth its salt (and lemon) - for many years they delighted the taste buds of those yearning for something away from the diet of rice, chappatis and curries that epitomized the diet on the overland trail. TJ's specialties announced that you are once more back in "civilization": those Stuffed Baked Potatoes, juicy Burgers, Chili con Carne and roll your own Fajitas were something out of this world and let me tell you, they still are! Nothing has changed except that TJ's fits the bill as a world-class eatery befitting the expectations of anyone visiting a classy holiday destination.
